1. the ring 2002

Director : Gore Burbinski
Starring : Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson
Plot :
There is a rumor that people who watch the mysterious videotape will die after seven days. Journalist Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) learns the existence of the videotape while investigating the death of her nephew, and watches the tape herself to dig into the truth. Shortly after seeing the tape, Rachel experiences a strange phenomenon and more and more bizarre things, and even her son Aidan (Davey Chase) is caught up in the curse. Rachel struggles to find the origin of the tape and break the curse, ending up facing the gruesome truth of the past.
Review :
Ring is a remake of a Japanese horror film, which shocked Western audiences as well. Naomi Watts' powerful performance and the dreary atmosphere throughout the film impresses the audience. The movie combines visual and psychological terrors, with a unique horror element called videotape making you feel both modern and classical at the same time. Ring is an outstanding work by itself, but it has since led the genre to trend, influencing many horror films.

2. Silent Hill (2006)

Director : Christophe Gangs
Starring : Lada Mitchell, Shaun Bean
Plot :
The main character, Rose da Silva (Lada Mitchell), visits an abandoned city called Silent Hill to solve her daughter's abnormalities. There, as Sharon goes missing, Rose delves into the secrets of the city to find her daughter. Silent Hill is a city that has a terrible past, a mixture of the hellish and real worlds. Rose embarks on a dangerous journey to find her daughter in monsters and supernatural events, and gradually learns the hidden truth of the city and her past.
Review :
Silent Hill is a faithful reproduction of the game's original story, making use of its unique dreary and ominous atmosphere. The visual direction and design of the movie are very impressive, and the sense of fear from the eerie monsters and the maze of cities is excellent. Radha Mitchell's performance is outstanding, and her feelings of despair and hope take center stage. Silent Hill is a work that satisfies both psychological and visual fears, and it has left a strong impression on not only fans of the original game but also on the general audience.

3. Paranormal Activity (2007)

Director : Oren Pelley
Starring : Katie Featherston, Michael Slott
Plot :
A young couple, Katie (Katie Featherston) and Mika (Mika Slott), set up a camera to record a strange phenomenon at home. The supernatural phenomenon, which initially began with small sounds and movements, gets stronger, and the couple begins to dig into the cause. The bizarre events captured on camera amplify their anxiety, and Katie confesses that she has been following something since she was a little girl. Mika becomes increasingly obsessed, but things get out of hand and end up catastrophically.
Review :
The Paranormal Activity was produced on a low budget but offers extreme reality through the Pound Footage format. Paranormal phenomena occurring in everyday spaces give the audience a greater sense of fear, and the growing tension is excellent. Katie and Mika's acting is natural, and their fears are conveyed intact. The film showed the potential for a low-budget horror film and was a huge box office success, resulting in several follow-ups. Paranormal Activity shows a new approach to finding fear in everyday life.
