Plot
Big Daddy is a 1999 comedy-drama film starring Adam Sandler. Sandler plays the role of Sonny Koufax, which unexpectedly portrays the process of becoming a temporary guardian of a boy.
Sonny Kopack is a 32-year-old adult living in New York City, but he still isn't mature and lives without responsibility. Although he has a law degree, he doesn't fulfill his full potential and lives a lazy life working part-time at a convenience store. His girlfriend, Vanessa (Kristy Swanson), is tired of Sonny's immaturity and ends up leaving him.
Then one day, a big change comes to Sony's life. 5-year-old Julian McGrath (played alternately by Cole Sprouse and Dylan Sprouse) appears at the door of his apartment. Julian is revealed to be the illegitimate daughter of Sony's college roommate, Kevin Garrickson (John Stewart). Kevin is currently in China and is unable to take care of Julian. Sony decides to take temporary care of Julian to change his life.
Sony first enjoys living with Julian and sometimes teaches him the wrong habits. But over time, Sony realizes he needs to be responsible and raise his child properly. He slowly becomes a good guardian, forming a genuine bond with Julian. Julian also feels stability and love through Sony.
However, the social worker becomes questionable about Sonny's parenting, and eventually tries to take Julian. Sonny decides to keep Julian through a legal battle. In the process, Sonny takes his life seriously and experiences true maturity. The film's climax takes place in court, and Sonny is shown being the right guardian to raise Julian.
The film ends with a happy ending where Sonny legally adopts Julian and starts a new life with him.
